X. GLOSSARY

  1. BLINKER - A warning signal consisting of red or yellow lights operating in an on-off sequence. The blinker may or may
    not be operating. See instructions #15 and #31 in the example rally.
  2. CATTLE GUARD – A wooden or metal grate across a road, intended to prevent the passage of cattle. See instruction #34 in the
    example rally.
  3. DNF – Did Not Finish
  4. DNS – Did Not Start
  5. FNS – Finished No Score
  6. FREE ZONE – A portion of the race in which there are no timing checkpoints. See instructions #25 and #28 in the example
    rally.
  7. I – When used on an Emergency Sign, "Ignore"
  8. I- – Interstate (as in I-10). See instructions #8 and #25 in the example rally.
  9. LEG – A part of the Race Route extending from one timing checkpoint to the next, or from an assigned start or restart
    point to the next timing checkpoint
  10. MERGE – Move in the direction indicated into another traffic lane.
  11. MPH – Mile(s) per hour
  12. RAILROAD CROSSING – The intersection of a road with a railroad track. See instruction #16 in the example rally.
  13. PAUSE – To delay a specified time. The pause time is added to the time for the leg. See instructions #15 and #33 in
    the example rally.
  14. STAGE – One day’s competition
  15. STOP SIGN – An official octagonal sign which requires traffic to stop. See instructions #4 and #33 in the example rally.
  16. TC – Timing Checkpoint
  17. TRAFFIC LIGHT – A signal light alternating red, yellow, and green controlling traffic at an intersection. It may be operating as a
    blinker or not operating. See instruction #2 in the example rally.
  18. TRANSIT – A portion of the race in which there are no timing checkpoints and for which no specific speed is assigned. A
    time for passage or restart time from the end of the transit will be given. See instructions #10, #12, #17, #23,
    #30 and #32 in the example rally.
  19. US – United States highway (as in US 66). See instruction #11 in the example rally.
  20. YIELD SIGN – An official triangular sign which requires traffic to yield right of way to other vehicles. See instruction #11 in the
    example rally.
